Women Empowerment, Women Safety & Breast Cancer Prevention


More than 100 women from different parts of the country came together to highlight women safety and empowerment, awareness on breast cancer prevention and 'Save the elephant Save the Forest' causes. This was on the eve of 5th edition of the Women Car Rally 2013 from Delhi to Rishikesh 2013, held from 29 March to 31 March 2013.
 With a strict rule that only women can drive, there were 32 participants from Gurgaon, 30 from Delhi, five from Faridabad, eight from Noida, two from Ghaziabad and two participants each from Mumbai and Gujarat along with a host of officials.

“If empowering women was the key theme, then participation by 69-year-old 1st timer Mrs Pravina Sain along with her 75-year-old husband  Lt Col  Bhim Sain (Retd) showed that age is not also a deterrent for women drivers. They also stood third in the Novice Mixed Category,” said Umesh Raheja from Team I Sports.
The youngest participants were 21-year-old Priyanshi Dutt and 24-year-old Mehak Vaid. The purpose of the rally was also to give women an opportunity to compete on the road through specified routes, speed calculations and spreading the message for taking care of their own health all together.
The time - speed - distance (TSD) Rally culminated with a grand prize distribution and closing ceremony at the Himalayan Hospital Jolly Grant, Rishikesh. The   Ex - Chief Minister of Uttaranchal felicitated the winning teams. The winners were Vasudha Girdhar and Aditi Singh from team Maruti who won in the NOVICE ALL WOMEN Category and Anjali Chandra and Prateek Jain won in the - NOVICE-MIXED category and Ankita Goyal along with Ruhi Thakur won in the PRO category.
Under the directions and watchful eyes of Federation of Motorsports Clubs of India (FMSCI), the Indian counterpart of Federation Internationale de 'Automobile (FIA) saw special activities undertaken by the rally will include distribution of pamphlets to not only the participants but also locals at each venue. Noted participant and founder/CMD of Seam Group of companies, Veena Gupta conducted a special workshop on women safety and internationally renowned stand-up comedians Vasu Ritu Primalani and Jeeveshu Ahluwalia gave a special performance for all participants.
Formulated under the aegis of Team I Sports, this campaign of fun adventure sport, competition and serious messages concerning today’s society, saw rally participants go through 5 / 6 hours of drive from Delhi to Chandi Ghat along the Ganga Canal on Day 1. Day 2 saw 3 / 4 hours of up country drive along picturesque countryside and villages helping participants understand the on-ground state of affairs cutting across streams, river beds spreading awareness about various issues of focus.
The previous expeditions of the rally have included New Delhi to Jaipur to New Delhi - September 24 - 25, 2011, New Delhi to Jaipur and back - April 2nd and 3rd 2010, New Delhi to Agra on October 2 - 3, 2013 and September 18 - 21, 2008 from New Delhi - Bikaner - Jaisalmer - Jodhpur - Jaipur.
The Women Car Rally 2013 was executed by Team I-Sports, a team of motor sport enthusiasts and professional rallyists with a passion for rallying, off-roading and driving. With Motorsport as their passion, together this team of driving enthusiasts has won, officiated, participated in almost all possible Indian rallies.
