Surjeet Singh, not Sarabjit Singh, to be released

Rohit Dhyani: Pakistan tonight clarified that Indian prisoner Surjeet Singh, and not Sarabjit Singh, will be released.

Earlier, Pakistani media had reported that president Asif Ali Zardari had commuted the death sentence for Sarabjit Singh.

Sarabjit Singh has been in jail since 1990 while Surjeet Singh has spent over three decades in prison in Pakistan.

Early it was in the news

"Pakistani president Asif Ali Zardari has commuted the death sentence for Indian prisoner Sarabjit Singh, who is likely to be allowed to return to Punjab soon. Sarabjit Singh has spent 21 years on death row and is currently in a prison in Lahore. He was convicted for blasts in Lahore and Multan in 1990."
