Ghulam Nabi Azad dedicates Genetric OPD in AIIMS

Rohit Dhyani:  Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Ghulam Nabi Azad today dedicated the Genetric OPD in AIIMS for the elderly People in the country.


With the increase of life expectancythe population of senior citizens has increased four fold since 1951.The number of senior citizens above the age of 60 was 76.6 million as per census 2001 which constituted about 7.5% of the total population. At this rate of increase it is projected to become 173 million by 2026.

The minister said there is definite need to increase awareness among the elderly and also among the younger generationabout the special needs of the elderly to enable them to enjoy healthy ageing. 


The central government has initiated a nationalprograme in the name of” National Programe for health Care of elderly” which will be initially implemented in 100 most backward and remote district of the country with poor health indicators covering21 states.
